So sorry for your loss, Stu – I’ve been through this recently with my dad and then my mum-in-law. It’s never easy but you have the right idea by taking things a day at a time. The pain never goes away entirely, but time blunts the edge. Take care. x

I was numb when my mom was in hospice and for two weeks after she died. Then I had a strange recurring nightmare about bring in a car crash out of control. A friend told me that losing a parent removes a deep sense of protection—someone you always can depend on for comfort —and thus the nightmare. I’m sorry for your loss. I send you best wishes for comfort from friends & relatives, and to regain an increasing awareness that your mom’s presence in your life was a gift.

It is so difficult, so hard to lose a mother, and even more so when it was so unexpected. Give yourself plenty of time to do what you need to do–and to grieve. My mother passed away a couple of months ago, so I sort of extra-sympathize with you. Just don’t put pressure on yourself.
