my favourite book

W  G SEBALD THE RINGS OF SATURN

THIS WAS A CHANCE HOILDAY READ THAT I TRUELY LOVED. THE BOOK FOLLOWS A TRIP ALONG THE EAST ANGLIAN COAT BY WILFRED HIMSELF .ALONG THE WAY YOU LEARN ABOUT THE PLACES CHARACTERS AND SMELLS OF THE AREA ,AT THE TIME SEBALD WAS THE PROFESSOR OF GERMAN LITERATURE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA . THE BOOK IS TRANSLATE WONDERFULLY BY MICHAEL HULSE ,GIVE IT A POETIC FLOW  AND GREAT PACE THAT ISN’T ALWAYS THE CASE IN GERMAN TRANSLATIONS . WHETHER THIS IS DUE TO THE AUTHORS LONG ASSCIATION WITH THE UK OR THE BRILLANCE OF HULSES TRANSLATION I M NOT SURE TIL I ATTEMPT TO READ A ORIGNAL GERMAN VERSION OF THE BOOK .   WHILST TRAVELING WITH THE NARRATOR YOU LEARN ABOUT FISHINGFLEETS,EMPERORS ,HURRICANES AND THE HUMBLE SILK WORM WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR IN A 300 PAGE NOVEL WELL YOU ARE ALSO TREATED TO PICTURE OF THE TOPICS MUSED ON BY WILFRED

Have never before regretted lack of second language (O’level French cannot count) but I love to read literature from other countries. It would be wonderful to be able to compare translations to the original. Good luck with the German. Be sure to blog how it turns out!

Interesting blog especially because you focus on translated literature.
Sebald is one of my favorite authors. I reviewed The Emigrants not long ago. In case you are interested: http://www.mytwostotinki.com/?p=100
